And so, the blog is back. I've moved house and though the boxes still fill most corners of the new place, there is at least internet and I finally got the Raspberry Pi that houses this thing a wi-fi adapter and got it back on the internet. Let joy be unbounded. So shortly we return to the Albums of the Years series. I'll bet you can't wait. We shall probably skip forward again to 2015 before returning to the thorny issue of the 1992 shortlist. And as for 2016, well I'm not looking forward to writing the intro to that…

Going Under

This blog will be going offline for a little while shortly, as I'm moving house. The blog runs off a Raspberry Pi in my house, and since the new house won't have internet for a good week or so after the move, it will be perforce offline (and probably in a box). Which means that you won't be able to read this. If you can, then i) I haven't moved yet, or ii) I haven't got internet in the new house yet. Should be back online early-to-mid-December. As you were.…

That creaking sound you hear...

...is this blog trying to live. I'm not promising to post much, but I am at least trying to get the thing working again. This blog lives on a Raspberry Pi in my house. It runs on the excellent Ghost. I got it running using the latest version of Ghost at the time, which was v0.6.0, and then left it. I posted stuff, I tweaked the theme, it worked. Then I just stopped posting, because that's what happens. Blogging always goes in phases. But one day I went into the admin interface and saw that Ghost was now…

Backing It Up

So I mentioned in the last post that I had learned my lesson re backing up - so it was time to actually do something about it. Well, with a little help from Dropbox Uploader and a sprinkle of crontab magic, I am now backing up my Ghost.db file once a day. Hopefully now even if the Pi explodes in a shower of magic pixie dust I should be able to rebuild and resurrect this blog with all (or near as dammit) content intact.…

Crash

So, I lost all my posts from Christmas onwards. The Raspberry Pi that hosts this blog crashed and bombed hard and the SD card got corrupted. No amount of FSCKing or other tricks would let me get any files off the thing - I only managed to get into the file system once, and by that point all networking had failed, so even though I could see the ghost.db file, I could do nothing with it - and so I had to reformat and start again. Luckily, it seems that some time over Christmas I was footling around with…

New Digs

Not that you'd know it from out there, but the server (Raspberry Pi) that hosts this lovely blog has been moved from its old Pimoroni Pibow case to a nice new Pimoroni Pibow Timber. Nice, huh?…

The Ghost Post

It occurs to me that others may want to set up a Ghost blog on their Raspberry Pi, and may be interested in how I went about it. 95% of the process is documented very helpfully here by Chris Mobberly, for which I am most grateful. I started with a fresh install of Raspbian. My Pi's SD card is a NOOBS (New Out Of Box Software) card, so all I had to do was reboot and hold down shift to go into recovery mode, and that let me reinstall Raspbian from scratch. Then I followed Chris's splendid tutorial to get…
